A popular belief among lovers of nature is that any time of the day one can be sure of seeing a leopard at the Wilpattu National Park. This is not just a saying, it is a fact and the Wilpattu National Park in Sri Lanka is among the top national parks in the world. 

In 1905, the designated area in Wilpattu was declared a sanctuary. Thereafter it was upgraded to national park status on February 25, 1938. However, the Wilpattu National Park was closed to visitors from December 1988 due to the prevailing situation in the country and the unstable security conditions in that area. After a sixteen year hibernation, it was reopened to visitors on March 16, 2003, much to the relief of many nature lovers who had missed out on the natural treasures of Wilpattu during its closure.

Wilpattu national park is the oldest and perhaps the most important protected area in Sri Lanka. It’s fauna and flora are representative of the dry lowland zone. It is unfortunate that many species living in the park are threatened species.

Korathota Raja Maha Viharaya (Korathota Temple) is an ancient Buddhist temple located in Kaduwela, Colombo District of Sri Lanka. 

According to the historical information provided over there, this temple was started in year 01 AD. This temple has two important historical inscriptions, which says this temple was offer to Maha Sanga by a daughter of Mahachula Mahatissa. Second one says one cave offered to Maha Sanga by a provincial leader call Sumana. 

King Walagamba also use this place as a hiding place before he chased away the South Indian invaders.

There are around six caves in Korathota temple. The largest one is dedicated to the main temple, where Buddha statues are located. The Vishnu Katharagama Dewalaya is also located in this main cave. 
There is another large cave dedicated for ‘Patthini Devalaya’.  

All caves have ‘kataram’, a small cut on the cave top to prevent the rain water flow down and drop in the caves. The ‘Boo Tree’ is located towards the corner of the temple garden. You have to climb several steps for that. 

You will be pleased to see the new Buddha Statue located on top of the hill and great panoramic view.

The house was built in 1931 by an English aristocrat and planter Sir Thomas Villiers, former Chairman of George Steuart Co, a trading and estate agency based in Colombo.

Sir Thomas was a grandson of Lord John Russell and descendant of the Dukes of Bedford. Named after Adisham, it was designed by R. Booth and F. Webster in Tudor and Jacobean style, on 10 acres (40,000 m²) of land. Adisham Hall played host to many prominent personalities of the colony until the retirement of Sir Thomas, after which it was sold to Sedawatte Mills in 1949.

In 1961 it was purchased by the Roman Catholic Church and was subsequently converted to a monastery. The house is well preserved along with its period fittings and furniture, and is open to visitors.

It was first proposed to be built in the suburb of Peliyagoda but later the Government of Sri Lanka decided to shift the location. The lotus-shaped tower will be used for communication, observation and other leisure facilities. It is visible throughout Colombo, its suburbs and most major highways radiating from and around the city.
